Review: In Search of the Sublime (Dinkgreve)
Celebrated my wife a birthday trip and 13 of our closest friends for a week in in Puerto Vallarta. The house rental included a manager, bartender, chef, all the amenities of home - we never actually left the property - which left me with some quality reading time on one of my Big Projects: " In Search of the Sublime: A World History of Humanity's Relentless Pursuit of Scientific Truth, Moral Excellence, and Enlightenment " by Stephan Peter Dinkgreve. 500 pages pan the dawn of civilization and concluded with the nuclear age. Fascinating to take in the span of human history in a week - not very deep - but insightful none-the-less. I especially appreciated Chapter 8 - The Covenant which details the development of Judiasim from Semitic tribes in Canaan, to modern-day Israel, along with the rise and fall of the world empires - Egyptian, Assyrian, Babylonian, Persian and Roman, along with their cultural and economic impacts on human development.
